Mephisto

Jazzy diptych based on the famous, and notorious, old jazzclub 'Mephisto Palace'. One of Rotterdams first jazzbars (1934-1938).
The entrance of the old club was a big devil's head with it's mouth wide open, surrounded by fire torches. The eyes and flames in our design are referring to these diabolic elements - also symbolic to the way people used to look at jazz dance and black music at these times. In collaboration with Ilse Weisfelt.
